Columba and Aquila - Reflect and Review

Dear Parents and carers,

It has been great to be all together again for the first week of the summer term.

In English, we began drawing inspiration from Macbeth by William Shakespeare. Columba focused on using powerful verbs, adjectives and adverbs, developing word banks to support setting descriptions. Aquila explored the key features of persuasive writing.

As mathematicians, Columba began learning about shape, focusing on understanding and using degrees, as well as classifying and estimating angles. Aquila worked on measuring, classifying and calculating angles in triangles and quadrilaterals.

As scientists, we explored electricity, including renewable and non-renewable sources of energy. We drew and built circuit diagrams using recognised symbols.

In PSHE, using the Big 5, we focused on how we can stay in control when provoked, linking this to our school values of kindness and wisdom.

Next Week

In English, we will focus on character descriptions, continuing to draw inspiration from Macbeth.

In Maths, Columba will begin measuring angles, drawing lines and angles accurately, and calculating angles around a point. Aquila will focus on properties of a circle and explore nets of 3D shapes.

In science, we will continue our work on electricity, exploring how we can vary the brightness of bulbs in a circuit and begin designing our own circuits.

Home Learning

Please continue to encourage your child to read daily and practise their spellings regularly, as this supports confidence and fluency across all areas of learning.

Columba Spelling Challenge: Children are encouraged to practise their spelling words at home and be ready to show their teacher—they can earn raffle tickets towards a big prize for their effort and progress.

Maths Practice Journals are due on Monday, as we will mark them in class that day. If your child hasn't received a new label in their book, please ensure they bring it in on Monday.

Don't forget to join us at our Book Fair next week - in the Hall after school Tuesday 21st - Friday 24th April! Special Offer: Buy 3 for the price of 2!
