Columba and Aquila - Reflect and Review

Dear Parents,

We have had another engaging week of learning.

As writers, we focused on character descriptions, using expanded noun phrases, complex sentences, parentheses and speech to develop more detailed and engaging writing, drawing inspiration from Macbeth by William Shakespeare.

As mathematicians, Columba began measuring angles using protractors, drawing lines and angles accurately, and calculating angles around a point. Aquila focused on the properties of a circle and explored nets of 3D shapes.

As scientists, we continued our work on electricity, exploring how we can vary the brightness of bulbs in a circuit and beginning to design our own circuits, including creating a burglar alarm.

Next Week

In English, we will plan and draft a descriptive narrative, focusing on ambitious vocabulary and clear paragraph structure.

In Maths, Columba will calculate angles on a straight line and focus on lengths and angles in shapes, including regular and irregular polygons. Aquila will explore position and direction, reading and plotting points in all four quadrants.

In Science, we will build our burglar alarms and demonstrate how they work, explaining our designs using scientific vocabulary.

Home Learning

Please continue to encourage your child to read daily and practise their spellings regularly, as this supports confidence and fluency across all areas of learning.

Columba Spelling Challenge: Children are encouraged to practise their spelling words at home and be ready to show their teacher—they can earn raffle tickets towards a big prize for their effort and progress.

Maths Practice Journals are due on Monday, as we will mark them in class that day. Thank you for your continued support.
