Corvus and Draco - Reflect and Review
Dear Parents,
It has been great coming back together after our much-needed break - it sounds as though we really made the most of it!
This week, Corvus has continued to practice writing descriptive sentences, building them up from the simplest sentences step-by-step by using adjectives, adverbs and prepositional phrases. We have also started to use figurative language to improve our descriptions.
In Draco, we have been learning how to write descriptive sentences inspired by an illustration in our class text, ‘The Green Ship.’ Please find examples of some of the sentences generated by anonymous members of the class:
“Painted branches leapt up, shrouding remaining light, and casting a ghostly shadow over the forest.”
“As the bird sang a sweet song, shimmering dew glistened in the sunlight.”
In Maths, Corvus have been measuring mass using grams and kilograms, and have started to measure volume and capacity in millilitres and litres. As mathematicians, Draco have been learning how to count in tenths and use a variety of representations of tenths as decimals up to the value of 1 whole.
Next week
Corvus will be starting to explore our text - The Green Ship - in English, considering and creating the relationship between words and illustrations. In Maths, we will continue to work with capacity and volume, looking at equivalent measurements and adding and subtracting volume. We will finish our Computing unit, building a sound project from sequences that we have studied throughout our lessons. We will begin to explore the history of transport, with a particular focus on transport in Oxford and the development of the UK canal infrastructure in the 19th century. Draco will be exploring decimal numbers and learning about plants and seed dispersal.
