Delphinus - Reflect and Review

Dear Delphinus Families,

Welcome back to Term 5 – we hope you had a restful break!
We are very excited this week as it has been all change! Mr Waldock and Mrs Ward had the most amazing start to the week, and Molly and Mrs Claxton have been delighted how welcome the children have made them feel throughout their teaching time too!

Let’s share some of what we have been doing!
In maths we have counted in lots of different ways – 2s, 5s and 10s, and on Thursday we started our Geometry sessions by looking at different turns! We used some new vocabulary “full”, “half”, “quarter” and “three-quarter” to describe these turns and had fun pretending to be robots!

We are starting afresh with Maths Homework this term so please make sure your child has their book every Monday for marking. The dates on the stickers should now correspond to the correct weeks!

Curious Quest has taken a step up as we introduced some new Faithful Friends! We now have Midnight Fox who loves dreams and dreaming. Scruff is a blackbird who loves to sing and listen to music whilst Latimer is a little mouse who loves inventing things and finding out how things work. Finally Byron is a ginger cat who loves poetry and rhymes! Ask your child which is their favourite and why! We can’t wait to send these friends on weekly adventures!

Our afternoons now begin with practicing some extra reading while we get ready for the Phonics Screening Check in June. To help your child read quickly and accurately, please scan the QR codes to watch together at home.

We are also creating our own flock of birds in Art and have worked carefully at creating 3D models. We closely observed photographs of real birds, created feathers and feathery patterns, and finally collaged our bird-bodies and gave them legs and feet! We now have a delightful flock of fantasy birds adorning the classroom!

In Big 5 we listened to the true story of Malala from Afghanistan and asked the question ‘can you control your anger?’ We linked it to our values of being Gentle and Brave, and also Humble and Wise.

What a week and what hard workers your children are!
