Delphinus - Reflect and Review

Dear Delphinus Parents,

Coming to the end of week 3, the weather is slowly getting better and we are looking forward to a lovely sunny weekend after a hard week of work.

This week in Maths, we are consolidating our learning from the year. This has included practicing writing and reading number sentences (equations) and remembering number bonds.

Maths homework is week 6 and is due on Monday!

This week in a Curious Quest we looked at the book ‘The Something’. The children particularly enjoyed discussing the different ideas about what might be living down the hole. They were excited by the imaginative possibilities and shared a range of creative suggestions, with many showing enthusiasm for characters such as the troll and the dragon. The story encouraged curiosity, prediction, and discussion, allowing the children to use their imaginations and justify their ideas using clues from the text.

The vocabulary they looked at this week included the words: GLOOMY, CAVERNOUS, RELUCTANT, FEARFUL, SNOOZING, VARIETY, CONVINCED, OBLIVIOUS.

They had fun pairing the words with actions, this really helps them to remember the vocabulary and gives them a chance to be silly!

Our favourite words this week were snoozing and oblivious.

We read and we watched a talked through version of the book which you can now all access too : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQloEGab-8w

We are noticing that although we are giving lots of fantastic books out to read, unfortunately they aren’t coming back! Please can you have a good rummage for previous books, they can be returned at any point.

In our wider curriculum this week, we focused on Art (Flora and Fauna). We practised drawing different insects by following instructional videos and carefully observing their features. We then used oil pastels to explore patterns and colours, taking inspiration from The Very Hungry Caterpillar. The children enjoyed experimenting with bright colours and creating detailed patterns. We also looked at how Eric Carle uses different materials and textures in his illustrations. The children explored his collage technique and created their own artwork by layering and combining different materials to produce colourful, textured collages inspired by his work.

We are continuing to practise Tennis skills in PE on Fridays and have Athletics taught by the Sports Coach on Mondays.

Just as a side note, I know it's coming to the end of the year and jumpers are going missing and shoes are worn out, but unfortunately as the rain has been on and off we've been making full use of our indoor and outdoor shoes - if you could make sure that your child has these in school, that would be amazing.

Have a lovely weekend.
